Apex Gaming was previously a North American team. In September 2016, they merged with Team Dignitas.

History

2016 Season

Apex Gaming was announced to have acquired Team Imagine's NACS 2016 Spring Season seed in a LoL Esports article on January 8th, 2016.[1] Their roster wasn't revealed until almost two weeks later and included three former LCS players - Cris, Keane, and Xpecial - and two Korean players: Eve from Samsung and Police from Ever, with Shrimp as a substitute. They were coached by former Team Coast coach Saintvicious and former Samsung mid laner BlisS.[2]

Apex won both the regular season of NACS and the playoffs, using both Eve and Shrimp actively in the jungle. In the promotion tournament, they were seeded first against the ninth-place Team Impulse, to whom they lost, and then against second place Challenger team Team Dragon Knights, a rematch of the Challenger Series finals. This time, they didn't even drop one game against TDK and qualified successfully for the LCS summer split.

On May 2nd, during the midseason break, Apex announced the indefinite suspension of Eve for "disciplinary reasons."[3] Soon after the suspension, ESPN reported that the reason for the ban was due to Eve's Korean account being banned by Riot Korea for use of scripts.[4] Additionally, the team added Ray and Apollo to their starting roster, replacing Cris and and Police, respectively. The starting lineup of Ray, Shrimp, Keane, Apollo, and Xpecial was used for all of their summer split games.

Apex's season started out strong, with a 2-0 first week including a 2-1 upset of reigning NA LCS champions and MSI alums CLG. Their success, however, was short-lived, and by week 5 they were in 7th place, where they remained for the rest of the season, out of reach of the playoffs but also safe from relegations for the 2017 Spring Season.

In September, Apex Gaming was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers along with Team Dignitas, and the two organizations merged, under the Dignitas brand.[5]
